Literary Entertainment from Japan
You enjoy manga? You enjoy anime? Why not try out some popular Japanese fiction translated to English? Vertical is betting that successful Japanese novels, like other forms of popular entertainment from Japan, can be commercially viable in the English speaking world. (OK, they have some manga too.)
Some of the notable titles that Vertical has made available in English are:

  • Books 1 and 2 (of 89) of the fantasy epic The Guin Saga by Kaoru Kurimoto
  • Volumes 1 and 2 (of 8) of Osamu Tezuka's (of Astroboy fame) manga on the life of the Buddha
  • Kenzo Kitakata's brilliant yakuza novel Ashes, and
  • Kuji Suzuki's Ring, the basis of the popular Gore Verbinski horror film of the same name.

One notable feature of Vertical's efforts is the brilliant book cover design by Chip Kidd
