A guide to ripping and encoding music

I have always wondered how true audiophiles go about ripping CDs. Certainly they do not use Windows Media Player? This piece from ars technica answered all of my questions and pointed me to the tools to make really good mp3s.

Interesting article, although I'm not sure "true audiophiles" would rip CDs - they would play them on their high end stereos. In fact, true audiophiles would probably play vinyl LPs on 35lb belt-drive turntables on rock-solid mounts with the signals being processed through high-end tube pre-amps and tube amps weighted down with bricks.

I myself use LAME at 320kbs.

Steve Joyce
